It only took three games for Russell Wilson to lose the starting gig with the New York Giants. This is after news hit on Tuesday that rookie Jaxson Dart has been promoted as the team’s QB1 , at least for their upcoming Week 4 matchup against the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
The Giants went 0-3 with Wilson at the helm, and the 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback struggled mightily in Sunday’s 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Wilson went 18-of-32 with his passes for 160 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions. It appears that that was the last straw for head coach Brian Daboll.
Wilson, however, appears to be in high spirits amid the unfortunate turn of events. On Thursday, the 36-year-old took to social media to send a message to his wife, Ciara. Wilson caught wind of his better half’s new post, which included several snaps of their family. The Giants QB just had to react.
“My why! Love you guys @ciara,” Wilson captioned his post, sharing a photo of his wife and four kids.

There are things that are bigger than football, and Wilson has made it abundantly clear that, in his case, it’s his family. As he indicated in his post, his wife and kids are his reason for being, which is, perhaps, a timely reminder for himself amid his recent benching.
Wilson and Ciara, a Grammy Award-winning R&B icon, have been married for nine years now. They have four kids, including 11-year-old Future Zahir, whom Ciara shares with her ex, rapper Future. Wilson, however, has raised Future Zahir and considers the kid his own son.
As for his football career, it is unclear whether his demotion is a permanent move or a temporary measure. Dart’s performance in his first NFL start will likely play a significant role in this decision.
Wilson has fought through adversity in the past, and it appears that this is what he’s going to do again in New York. It won’t be easy, but the veteran quarterback will, without a doubt, have the support of his family every step of the way.
