Ryan Clark shreds Steelers over Aaron Rodgers signing: ‘Worst-case scenario’

Ryan Clark is not a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers signing Aaron Rodgers for the 2025 season. On ESPN’s SportsCenter, the former Steelers safety reacted to the news of Rodgers reportedly signing a deal with the Steelers ahead of the team’s training camp.

“This is the worst-case scenario for Pittsburgh Steelers fans,” Ryan Clark said. “It continues to keep you mired in mediocrity. Have they gotten better in the quarterback room? Absolutely.  Will they contend for that championship that Pittsburgh Steelers people and fans and organization think is the standard? No, they won’t.”

Clark then talked about how Aaron Rodgers and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin will work together. “Five years from when both of these men retire, one of them will give the most motivational Hall of Fame speech we’ve ever heard,” Clark stated. “Another will probably give the most interesting, and it won’t mean anything. They’ll be fighting for a wild-card spot, they’ll probably be home Week 1 of the playoffs and again be looking for a franchise quarterback. If you told me you were going to pair one of this era’s greatest coaches with one of this era’s greatest quarterbacks, I’d expect greatness. That’s not what we’ll get.”

Can Aaron Rodgers get the Steelers to a Super Bowl?

Rodgers to the Steelers has been talked about since he was released by the New York Jets early in the offseason. It was likely the Steelers were going to have Rodgers as their QB1 since the team did not select a QB in the early rounds of the draft.

In March, Rodgers met with the Steelers but did not sign a contract. Reporters then asked Tomlin if there was a deadline for the team to sign the Super Bowl champion QB.

“Not to my knowledge,” he said. “You know, I don’t know that we’ve approached it from a deadline perspective. Certainly, as I mentioned, you’d like to have settled circumstances. But, you know, deadlines don’t often bring that to a head.”

The Steelers are hoping that Rodgers can get them over the hump and reach their first Super Bowl since the 2010 season when they lost to the Green Bay Packers. In that game, Rodgers was the QB for Green Bay, and that was the last time he has been to the Super Bowl.
