Ryan Poles plans to change the narrative in Chicago with quarterback Caleb Williams
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears are set to draft their next franchise quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft and the team's front office is confident that player won't be just like the others.

Caleb Williams is widely considered to be the Bears' top draft t rget with the first overall pick in next month's draft and there's no point in even hiding it anymore.

The Bears are set to bring in one of the best college prospects in recent memory who will enter the best offensive unit a number one pick has potentially ever walked into as a rookie. Williams is everything any Bears' fan has been hoping for at the position and could be the one to finally shatter a long standing narrative in Chicago.

The Bears, by many faults of their own, have become known as the team that can’t develop a player at the most important position in football and the mismanagement of Justin Fields continued to build up that narrative.

And there's plenty of examples beyond Fields that continue to prove that sentiment. The Bears have never had a 4,000 yard passer in franchise history and never had a single quarterback throw for over 30 touchdowns in a single season. All while continuing to be stuck in mediocrity as a franchise.

However, things are slowly starting to turn the other way under general manager Ryan Poles as he continues to make the tough decisions and build the roster up from the depths of the NFL. But, some people are still too blind to see it that way.

During his Twitter rant earlier this month, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III shared his thoughts on the Bears' quarterback struggles and what he believes Williams should do following Fields' disappointing career in Chicago, which is demand a trade from the Bears if he's selected with the first overall pick similar to Eli Manning.

The thought process is extremely narrow-minded and RGIII was correctly called out for his opinions on the matter. After we all thought the dust settled regarding his comments, we now have gotten the response from the Bears' general manager himself during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday.

"It pisses me off a little bit to be honest with you," Poles said. "We were hired to break a cycle. The same thing when I was in Kansas City, Coach Reid and all of us were brought there to break a cycle, and we did... I really believe we're about to break this cycle and get this city in a really good situation and win a lot of games."

The future of the Chicago Bears rides on Williams shoulders going forward and it seems everyone within the organization is coming around to that idea. After conducting hours of research and homework on the top prospect, the Bears seem more than ecstatic about the opportunity to have such a prolific player at the position.

“He’s an outstanding young man, and everything looks great in terms of his personality, his character, his football knowledge," Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said on Tuesday. "What I loved to see was the interaction with the other players. You can certainly see those players love and respect him."

The Bears truly feel like Williams can be the player that finally gets this franchise over the hump and provides the style of play fans have been hoping to see in Chicago for decades. So far, Williams has checked every box within the organization and the belief should be warranted from everything they've learned about him through the process.

“When you talk to his teammates, they don’t like him, they love him,” Poles said. “His leadership, how he brings people together. He’s intentional with his leadership. Same goes with the staff. I’m having a hard time finding a person that doesn’t like him or even love him.”

For a team that has tried and failed so many times at the position, it easy to think that this could just be another déjà vu scenario with a top quarterback coming in to finally save the Bears franchise. However, with Williams there's more of a potential he could actually be the one to do it along with the rest of the staff set in place in Chicago.
