Ryan Tannehill details Treylon Burks’ offseason improvements, pairing him with DeAndre Hopkins
? Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Treylon Burks is poised to be one of the Tennessee Titans top wide receivers in 2023, and quarterback Ryan Tannehill is excited to see what his budding teammate is capable of with more snaps ahead of him this season.

“I’m so proud of the work he’s put in over the course of this offseason,” Tannehill said of the second-year wideout on NFL Live. “Not only with his body and coming in shape and ready to go, but mentally. Now, he’s moving to a new position and having to learn a new position, so it’s just getting dialed in to the details.

“He’s done a great job with what we’ve asked him to do. He’s making plays, he’s fast and he’s doing all the things we need to see from him. So, you pair him with D-Hop and we have a really good one-two punch.”

As a rookie in 2022, Burks hauled in 33 receptions on 54 targets for 444 yards and a touchdown having appeared in 11 games. If it wasn’t for DeAndre Hopkins’ signing, Burks would be Tannehill’s No. 1 option in 2023. That’s nothing against Burks — and if you ask him, getting to play alongside the former All-Pro wideout is a dream come true.

After all, Hopkins — who Burks called an idol of his throughout his career — has compiled more than 10,000 receiving yards and 70 touchdowns across his 10-year NFL tenure. Burks can only hope he can achieve those rare numbers at the decade mark of his career. But until then, he’s soaking up all he can from his new teammate.

“D-Hop is an amazing person, on and off the field. Just being with him the couple of days he’s been here, it’s been amazing, “Burks said of his new teammate, via the team’s website. “Just learning how he takes care of his business, and then he comes out here and practices. Seeing that is going to help me to get better. [I’m] learning from one of the best. It is going to be fun.”

The first time these two will be in action together will be during the Titans’ season opener on Sept. 10 on the road against the New Orleans Saints. If both Burks and Hopkins can stay healthy and the Titans stay hot on offense, Tennessee has a shot to take home a fairly winnable AFC South title in 2023 after a down season last year.
