Saahdiq Charles injury update: Cowboys OL leaves preseason game vs. Rams

Dallas Cowboys guard Saahdiq Charles left Saturday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams with a knee injury. Charles limped to the sidelined during the fourth quarter and was taken to the injury tent to be checked out.

It was later reported that he would not return to the game. The injury was revealed postgame to be a hyperextended knee, and Charles will undergo further testing for the injury on Sunday. Dallas returns to practice Tuesday.

Charles is in his first season with the Cowboys after signing with the team this offseason. He previously played four seasons for the Washington Commanders from 2020-23.

A former fourth-round pick out of LSU, Charles was brought in to provide some depth after starting 18 of 35 games in his career thus far. He is expected to play a reserve role at right guard behind starter Tyler Booker.

Charles played at LSU from 2017-19 and was a starter at left tackle for the 2019 national championship team. The Tigers’ offensive line won the Joe Moore Award that season, given to the country top offensive line unit.

Hopefully the Cowboys will get good news on the injury to Saahdiq Charles when they return to practice on Tuesday. He wasn’t the only player to leave late in the fourth with injury, unfortunately.

Cowboys QB Joe Milton suffers elbow injury, leaves game vs. Rams

Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton left Saturday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams with an apparent elbow injury. Milton appeared to suffer the injury during a play with 5:25 to go in the fourth quarter in which he was sandwiched in between two tacklers.

He took a hit to his left side and then came out as Will Grier replaced him. Milton attempted to throw the ball on the sidelines, but it was later reported that he is done for the day.

Milton ended his evening 17-of-29 passing for 143 yards, one touchdown and one interception. It’s unclear whether him not returning the game was simply precautionary or not, but it looked on the sidelines like he wanted to go back in and tried his best to.

Grier looked good in his relief of Milton, leading the Cowboys on a touchdown drive that he capped off with a three-yard run into the end zone. He also went 2-of-3 passing for 14 yards.
