Saints agree to three-year deal with TE recently diagnosed with cancer

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Moreau has been cleared and expects to play after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma — a cancer that affects the body's immune system, per the Mayo Clinic. The Saints and the 26-year-old tight end agreed to a three-year, $12M deal with $8M guaranteed and $3M in incentives.

The Saints medical team discovered the cancer when Moreau visited New Orleans as a free agent. Afterward, he announced he would be stepping away from football to recover. 

In April, during an appearance on "Good Morning America," he said, "It's at stage 2, so it's spread from the initial location, but it appears to be a slow spread, and we should be able to get rid of all of it." 

Moreau's recovery is remarkable, especially since he's healed in a little less than two months. 

Some NFL players, such as Cardinals running back James Conner and former Chiefs defensive back Eric Berry, had the same type of cancer. Berry needed a little less than seven months to recover, while Conner needed six.

Moreau fits the Saints offense because they need a TE after trading Adam Trautman to Denver, and Moreau played with quarterback Derek Carr for four seasons as a Raider. In 2022, he recorded a career-high 33 receptions in 15 games. 

Even so, football is not one of the essential aspects of this situation. What matters is that Moreau is miraculously regaining his health after a scary, life-altering medical diagnosis.
