The New Orleans Saints are heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns looking to get back into the win column. New Orleans is 2-5 on the year.
Saints fans have not had much to cheer for this season. However, it has been exciting to see running back Alvin Kamara this season still in a featured role.
Now in his 10th NFL season, the 31-year-old veteran no longer has the same burst he once did, and it is evident as he has averaged just 3.0 yards per carry, the worst of his career, but he has still provided value as a pass catcher. On 27 targets, he has caught 22 of them for 133 yards and a touchdown.
The reason Kamara has had to play nearly every down is because Saints offseason acquisition Travis Etienne has been out for over a month recovering from a left hamstring strain.
That left Kamara as the only running back on the roster aside from Kendre Miller. However, Kamara has had to push through a few issues of his own in Etienne’s absence. Kamara dealt with a back injury earlier this week that forced him to miss practice.
Fortunately, he was able to return on Thursday and as a result carries no injury designation for Sunday’s game against Cleveland.
As a result, the Saints made a surprising move Saturday. New Orleans decided to release Kendre Miller from the active roster, making him a free agent.
The Saints have:

Miller’s exit has to do with his lack of on-field production and his injury history. Since being selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft he has appeared in just 27 total games.
With Audric Estimé now in the mix for the Saints, they decided to part ways with Miller. His removal from the roster also gave the Saints space to activate Jordyn Tyson to make his NFL debut Sunday.
