The New Orleans Saints have signed yet another former LSU Tiger in free agency: OL Will Clapp.
On Thursday, the Saints announced they are bringing a familiar face back to the Bayou. Will Clapp, who formerly played for LSU and the Saints before spending the past few years with the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers, will make his way back to New Orleans to spend 2025 in his hometown.
Clapp spent three years at LSU from 2015-2017. He was a full-time starter with the Tigers and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team (2015), Freshman All-American Team (2015) and All-SEC First-Team (2016, 2017).
He forwent his final season of eligibility and entered his name into the 2018 NFL Draft, where he was selected by the Saints with the 245th overall pick in the seventh round. He would spend his first four seasons in New Orleans, earning over four million dollars and playing over 600 snaps before signing a two one-year, 1.1 million dollar deals with the Chargers in 2022 and 2023.
In 2023, Clapp earned the most playing time of his entire career. He started 11 games at center, totaling over 700 snaps and giving up 24 pressures and one sack. The Chargers finished with a 5-12 record that year and missed the playoffs.
Prior to the 2024 season, Clapp signed a one-year, 1.3 million dollar deal with the Buffalo Bills. He only appeared in one game - their week 18 loss to New England when they rested all of their starters - and played 67 snaps, allowing two pressures.
Now, Clapp returns to his hometown for his second stint with the Saints. The Saints new Head Coach, Kellen Moore, was the Chargers offensive coordinator in 2023 when Clapp started 11 games, so there's some familiarity there.
The former Tiger enters his eighth season in the league and is on his seventh NFL contract. Pretty good for a seventh round pick.
