With the New Orleans Saints projected to be $51.2 million over the salary cap in 2025, the franchise isn't in much position to move away from the contract of quarterback Derek Carr.

General manager Mickey Loomis revealed the Saints will keep Carr as the team's starting quarterback next season.

"I think we feel like we've got a guy we can win with," Loomis said at the NFL Scouting Combine.

When the Saints announced the hiring of head coach Kellen Moore, his response about Carr's future was far more tepid when he stated the 33-year-old signal-caller was a "tremendous starting quarterback in this league."

At the combine, Moore seemed to turn up the temperature on his comments about Carr.

"We feel fortunate to have Derek here, the experience he has. He's a big-time quarterback in this league," Moore said Wednesday.

According to ESPN's Katherine Terrell, the Saints could free up about $31 million in cap space by restructuring Carr's contract.

New Orleans has the third-most dead cap in the NFL, at $48.4 million. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who was traded to the Washington Commanders in November, accounts for much of that figure, at $31.6 million.

Carr is under contract through the 2026 season and is currently scheduled to have a $61.4 million cap hit that year.
