The New Orleans Saints suffered a surprising loss this offseason when quarterback Derek Carr retired out of nowhere. Even if the team had preparations in place for that decision, his choice shocked the NFL world.
Following that move, some folks around social media brought up Aaron Rodgers as a potential replacement for Carr in New Orleans. That never truly made sense, and New Orleans won't be going that route.
According to Jeff Duncan, veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers has not been an option on the table for Kellen Moore's team after Carr's retirement.
No surprise here, but Aaron Rodgers never really was a consideration for the Saints in the wake of the Derek Carr retirement. At their current stages, they don't make sense for him, and he doesn't make sense for them. -- Jeff Duncan

As a first-year head coach, adding one of the largest personalities in football would have been a bit of a head scratcher. Rodgers is a former MVP, but he has also spent plenty of time in the headlines for his off-the-field interests and opinions.
Moore is trying to build a particular environment around his team, and the staff just selected Louisville QB Tyler Shough in round two of the 2025 NFL Draft. From a talent perspective, a 41-year-old QB also wasn't in line with the plan from Moore, either.
All in all, this outcome should not surprise anyone. Replacing Carr with Rodgers would have only been placing a low-grade bandage on a wound that needs time to heal. The quarterback position (and plenty of the Saints roster) needs a full reset, and that may take a bit of time and dedication from everyone involved.
The Pittsburgh Steelers remain the expected landing spot for Rodgers' services, if he chooses to play in the NFL this season.
