The New Orleans Saints are beginning to turn it around under rookie quarterback Tyler Shough , but they might not have veteran Taysom Hill for the next phase of the rebuild. One of the few remaining pieces of the Drew Brees and Sean Payton Era, the de facto Swiss army knife is considerably closer to the end of his career than the beginning, and recently reflected on what might be his final season in New Orleans.
“As I was driving to the stadium today, you start to think about the last nine years and what it’s meant to me and my family,” Hill said, via John Hendrix of NewOrleans.Football. “This city and stuff. I think for me personally that you try to take it all in.
Quite frankly, it’s easy to see why Taysom Hill has the end of his Saints tenure on his mind. The tight end/quarterback/special teams ace will be a free agent at the end of the season, and he hasn’t done all that much to justify a spot on the roster. So far in 2025, the veteran has recorded 49 carries for just 114 yards (2.3 yards per carry) and a touchdown while adding eight receptions for 59 yards in the receiving game. Even with the seemingly endless injuries at the running back position, Hill has yet to make a positive impression this season.
Hill tore his ACL in 2024, hasn’t recaptured his old form, and will be 36 next year. Put simply, this is a recipe for a player on the way out. Perhaps he earns a league-minimum deal next year, but he may not make the Week 1 roster. While he won’t make the Hall of Fame, Taysom Hill is one of the more fun players in recent Saints history and fans will miss seeing him on the field.
