Saints reportedly reach agreement to add 49ers assistant Klint Kubiak as offensive coordinator
Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints were targeting San Francisco 49ers offensive passing game specialist Klint Kubiak to be their new offensive coordinator under head coach Dennis Allen. Of course, they had to wait until after the Super Bowl to make things official.

According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Kubiak and the Saints have agreed on a deal, and the assistant coach will depart the 49ers after just one season under head coach Kyle Shanahan.

The following is Kubiak's bio from the 49ers' official team website.

Klint Kubiak is in his first season as the 49ers offensive passing game specialist. He joined the 49ers after spending the 2022 season with the Denver Broncos as the team's offensive passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach.

The 2022 Broncos were led by QB Russell Wilson, who completed 292 of 483 attempts for 3,524 yards and 16 touchdowns in his first season with the team following an offseason trade from the Seattle Seahawks. Third year WR Jerry Jeudy finished the season with team highs in receptions (67), receiving yards (972) and receiving touchdowns (six).

Kubiak joined the Broncos after spending the previous three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings as the team's offensive coordinator (2021) and quarterbacks coach (2019-20). In 2021, WR Justin Jefferson finished in the Top 10 in receiving yards (1,616-2nd), receptions (108-4th) and receiving touchdowns (10-T-6th) in just his second NFL season. QB Kirk Cousins added the third season of his career with 4,000-or-more passing yards and 30-or-more touchdown passes. That season, Kubiak and the Vikings offense ranked tied for first in fewest interceptions (seven) and total giveaways (13).

Under Kubiak in 2020, Kirk Cousins passed for 3,000 yards with 35 touchdowns and the Vikings ranked 4th in the NFL in total offense. Cousins became the 1st Vikings QB to record a 100+ passer rating in consecutive seasons with a 105.0, his 2nd highest of his career behind his 107.4 in 2019. Working with Kubiak in 2019, Cousins posted 3,602 passing yards and threw 26 touchdowns with a 107.4 passer rating. With only a career-low 6 INTs on the season, Cousins tied for the 5th-lowest in the NFL in 2019.

Prior to his time with the Vikings, Kubiak served as the Denver Broncos QB Coach from 2016-2018. In 2018, Case Keenum threw for 18 touchdowns and a career-high 3,890 yards in his 1st season with Denver. The previous year, Kubiak coached QB Trevor Siemian who threw for 2,285 yards and 12 touchdowns over 10 starts. In his first year with Denver in 2016, Kubiak worked with QBs Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch who combined to throw for nearly twice as many touchdowns (20) as interceptions (11) while accounting for 3,898 passing yards.

Kubiak made his debut in the NFL as a quality control/assistant wide receivers coach for the Vikings from 2013-14. The Vikings offense threw for over 3,000 yards in each season and scored 18 touchdowns (2013) and 17 touchdowns (2014) through the air.

In addition to his NFL experience, Kubiak has coached four years at the collegiate level with Texas A&M and Kansas. Kubiak served as a quality control coach/offense (2010-11) and graduate assistant/inside wide receivers coach (2012) for Texas A&M while coaching wide receivers for Kansas in 2015.

A native of Houston, TX, Kubiak attended Colorado State University, where he played safety for the Rams and was named team captain as a senior. He is the son of longtime NFL coach and former 49ers quarterbacks coach, Gary Kubiak. His brother, Klay, is currently the assistant quarterbacks coach with the 49ers. Kubiak is married to his wife, Tessa.
