The New Orleans Saints have made an addition to their tight end room. Former UFL standout Seth Green is officially heading to the NFL, signing a one-year deal with the Saints following a successful tryout during last week’s minicamp.

Green’s signing brings another versatile playmaker into the fold for New Orleans. Known for his flexibility and athleticism, Green spent the last two seasons with the UFL’s Arlington Renegades, steadily improving his production. With injuries and uncertainty lingering at the tight end position, the Saints are taking a calculated chance on a player who’s shown growth and grit.

Green’s Unconventional Football Journey

Green’s path to the NFL has been anything but traditional. At 6-foot-3, he began his college career as a quarterback at the University of Minnesota. After three seasons, he transferred to Houston in 2021, where he switched roles, lining up at fullback and tight end.

His final year in college saw him post 13 receptions for 157 yards and three touchdowns. Though undrafted in 2022, Green’s adaptability was already drawing attention. Rather than walking away, he turned to the UFL, where he continued refining his game and adjusting to his new positions.

In his first UFL season, Green caught 11 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. He built on that in 2025, recording 13 receptions for 150 yards and another score. While those stats may not jump off the page, they reflect a consistent upward trend and a player learning how to contribute in multiple ways.

Saints Seeking Depth and Flexibility

New Orleans already features a solid tight-end trio in Juwan Johnson, Foster Moreau and veteran Taysom Hill. But beyond the top names, the group lacks seasoned depth. Hill is recovering from a torn ACL, which could sideline him well into the regular season.

The Saints did draft tight end Moliki Matavao in the seventh round this year. They also signed UDFA Dallin Holker in 2024. Still, neither has NFL game experience, leaving the door open for someone like Green to rise through the depth chart quickly.

Green’s quarterback background, combined with his rushing and receiving versatility, makes him a logical temporary fill-in for Hill’s unique role. With 388 rushing yards and 240 receiving yards in college, he’s a proven dual-threat option who can keep defenses honest.

Making the Case for the 53-Man Roster

Green’s signing doesn’t guarantee a spot on the final roster, but his odds are better than most late additions. The Saints are familiar with position-bending players, and Green fits the mold. If he can shine in training camp and preseason action, he’ll be hard to ignore.

New Orleans values versatility in its offensive schemes, and Green checks that box with confidence. He’s lined up at multiple spots, made plays in different leagues, and maintained steady production despite changes in role and competition.

With Hill sidelined, the Saints are banking on someone to step up. Green’s experience, work ethic, and skill set give him a real chance to do just that. His story reflects persistence and adaptability—traits that align well with New Orleans’ team culture.

Final Thoughts

While Seth Green remains a long shot to become a major contributor, his path to this point is compelling. The Saints are giving him an opportunity to prove he belongs on the NFL stage, and the timing might be in his favor with Hill still recovering.

If Green can carve out a role in camp, his multi-positional background could become a hidden gem for New Orleans. He may not be a household name yet, but his story is one worth watching as training camp approaches.
