Saints To Re-Sign Cameron Jordan

After spending three months on the free agent market, Saints icon Cameron Jordan will re-sign with the team, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The edge defender is finalizing a one-year, incentive-laden deal.

It appeared the arrow was pointing toward Jordan re-upping with the Saints when he booked a Tuesday meeting with the club. An agreement came together in short order, which will allow the career-long Saint to play his 16th season with the franchise.

Already the Saints’ all-time leader in games played (243) and sacks (132), Jordan will build on those numbers during his age-37 campaign. Jordan, who ranks 17th on the NFL’s official all-time sacks leaderboard, needs 6.5 to climb into the top 10.

While youth is not on Jordan’s side, he remained remarkably durable and productive in 2025. After taking a pay cut last spring, Jordan played his third straight 17-game season and hit double-digit sacks (10.5) for the first time since 2021 and the seventh time in his career. The eight-time Pro Bowler also added 47 tackles, 15 TFL, 15 quarterback hits and a pair of forced fumbles. Along with his pass-rushing prowess, Jordan was a problem for opposing running backs. The 6-foot-4, 287-pounder ranked sixth among edge defenders in run stop win rate. Meanwhile, Pro Football Focus assigned Jordan the fourth-best grade against the run at his position.

Although Jordan showed he had plenty left in the tank last year, there was little reported outside interest in him during his drawn-out trip to free agency. However, Jordan suggested back in March that he was weighing opportunities to sign elsewhere. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis, who chose Jordan 24th overall in 2011, indicated in April that the outcome of the draft could affect the veteran’s chances of staying with the organization. Loomis did not select an edge defender with any of his eight picks, though he did swing a trade with the Raiders for Tyree Wilson and sign ex-Patriot Anfernee Jennings.

A few weeks after acquiring Wilson, a 2023 first-rounder who has disappointed during his three-year career, Loomis announced in May that he sent an offer out to Jordan. When discussing the matter last week, second-year head coach Kellen Moore expressed hope Jordan would re-sign. Although the Saints do not have much financial wiggle room (just $8.13MM in space, per OverTheCap), Moore will now get his wish, giving him and defensive coordinator Brandon Staley a major boost as the summer approaches. Jordan, Chase Young and Carl Granderson are returning as the Saints’ top edge defenders. Behind that trio, New Orleans will hope Wilson’s change of scenery will help him realize the potential he had when he entered the league as the seventh overall pick in his class.

Jordan’s decision to remain with the Saints will remove arguably the best edge presence left on the open market. Jadeveon Clowney, Von Miller, Joey Bosa, Leonard Floyd, Kyle Van Noy and Haason Reddick are among the notables who are still without contracts midway through June.
