San Francisco 49ers announce they are two steps away from completing a huge offseason task
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers' rookie class is almost entirely under contract.

San Francisco announced on Friday that it has signed six members of its 2024 draft class to their rookie contracts.

Only first-round pick Ricky Pearsall and sixth-round pick Jarrett Kingston remain unsigned.

At the same time, the Niners also confirmed the signings of their class of eight undrafted free agents, which includes 2023 SEC rushing leader Cody Schrader and wide receiver Terique Owens, so of Hall of Famer and 49ers legend Terrell Owens.

Rookie contract sagas have largely become a thing of the past following the introduction of the rookie wage scale in the NFL's CBA.

As such, the 49ers should not have to wait much longer before Pearsall and Kingston are under contract and they can tick off the relatively simple but big offseason task of signing their rookie class, with the focus thereafter set to be on negotiations over a long-term extension for All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

San Francisco has also expressed a desire to sign another wideout, Jauan Jennings, whom they tendered at the second-round level as a restricted free agent, to a long-term deal.

Formalities of signing their rookie class almost complete, the remaining items on the 49ers' offseason to-do list figure to be significantly more complicated to tick off.
