The San Francisco 49ers are adding former 1,000-yard wide receiver Christian Kirk to their star-studded offense.
Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the 49ers have signed Christian Kirk to a one-year, $6 million contract. The 29-year-old spent last season with the Houston Texans, catching 28 passes for 239 yards and one touchdown.

The signing of Kirk comes days after the 49ers won the Mike Evans sweepstakes in free agency. San Francisco landed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend on a three-year deal worth $42.4 million.
San Francisco needed WR help with Brandon Aiyuk on his way out. The Pro Bowl wideout hasn’t been released yet, but it’s likely only a matter of time until he’s traded or cut and sent to free agency.
Kirk had his best season in 2022 as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, catching 84 passes for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns, per Pro Football Reference.
Kirk appeared to have asserted himself as Trevor Lawrence’s No. 1 receiver with a breakout campaign in 2022. But injuries derailed Kirk’s 2023 and 2024 seasons, leading the Jags to trade him to the Texans last year.
The Texans’ passing game was a weakness last year, though. A healthy Kirk could still be a 1,000-yard threat, and he should enjoy the luxury of working in a Kyle Shanahan-coached offense.
Evans figures to slot in as the No. 1 receiver, though 2024 first-round pick Ricky Pearsall and veteran Jauan Jennings will make a play as well. Still, Kirk should get plenty of opportunities to flourish in one of the league’s most explosive offenses.
