The reigning Super Bowl champions are no longer in contention.
The Philadelphia Eagles' offensive shortcomings were just too much to overcome, and they're now looking ahead to next season.
Nick Sirianni's team put together 307 total yards of offense in a 23-19 home loss to a San Francisco 49ers team that was down to fifth and sixth-string defenders.
That's why, as much as Niners DC Robert Saleh deserves plenty of credit, Saquon Barkley believes the loss was on the Eagles' offense. Following the loss, he didn't hold back on that unit.
"It's easy to say, we expect to get the playoffs and it's going to change. And it just didn't," Barkley said, per The Athletic's Zach Berman. "We played, what, 18 games this year? You tell me a time on offense we put together two halves. I bet you it's under five. We just didn't do it. And it caught up to us."
The Eagles' predictable offense was a talking point all year long. New offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo had never called plays, and he didn't always do the best job.
The offensive line wasn't as dominant as in previous years, and Jalen Hurts' limitations and decision-making also held the team back more often than not.
All in all, they ranked 24th in total yards per game (322.7), 23rd in passing yards (194.3), 19th in points per game (22.3) and 24th in third-down conversion percentage (37.1 percent).
That's despite having a star-studded offense and the reigning Offensive Player of the Year.
This team has some big decisions to make, and even if Sirianni returns, there's no way to justify keeping Patullo around, at least as an offensive play-caller.
