Saquon Barkley, Odell Beckham Jr. to train together amid ACL recoveries

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley and Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. are teaming up this offseason.

Barkley told ESPN's Jordan Raanan that he plans to train with Beckham Jr. as the two rehab from torn ACLs that prematurely ended their 2020 campaigns.

"Only thing I do know that I have planned for sure, I'm definitely going to link up with (Odell)," Barkley told Raanan. "Obviously Odell tore his knee a little too. I think we both need just being there. We're really good friends. Competing with each other and pushing each other will also be good too. That's the only thing I know for certain I will do. Everything else is up in the air."

Barkley underwent ACL surgery on Oct. 30, and Beckham had surgery on Nov. 10, making their recovery timelines relatively similar.

Barkley and Beckham Jr. became friends during their single campaign in New York together in 2018. They continue to speak on a regular basis.

Barkley is eligible for a contract extension this offseason and will need to have an strong 2021 season in order to maximize his value. In three seasons with the Giants, the 23-year-old has 497 carries for 2,344 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also has 149 catches for 1,219 yards and six TDs.

Beckham Jr., meanwhile, has spent the last two seasons in Cleveland. The 28-year-old has 97 catches for 1,354 yards and seven touchdowns with the Browns.
