Saquon Barkley on Odell Beckham Jr.: 'Maybe one day we'll be on the same team'

The 2-1 New York Giants head into Week 4's matchup against NFC East rivals the Dallas Cowboys with a ton of uncertainty at the wide receiver position.

Last week, the Giants lost Sterling Shepard to a torn ACL, meanwhile, the likes of Kadarius Toney and Kenny Golladay have failed to step up. Through three weeks, Richie James, a former seventh-round pick, leads the Giants with 14 receptions and sits behind only Shepard with 146 receiving yards.

The wideout corp's lackluster start has Giants fans clamoring for a reunion with a familiar face in Odell Beckham Jr., and Giants star running back Saquon Barkley seems to agree.

Speaking on "Sports Seriously" with Tony Anderson, Barkley said he had just spoken with Beckham about Shepard's injury and even hinted at being teammates with the former Giant once again.

"Odell, he's a different cat. Special, special player," Barkley said. "I know that he's doing everything he can in his rehab to come back even better, and you never know, maybe one day we'll be on the same team."

Beckham hasn't seen action since tearing his ACL in last year's Super Bowl playing for the Los Angeles Rams.

Despite rumors of a return to the Rams before the season, Beckham remains a free agent. He's been linked to several teams, including the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills. In August, former Rams teammate Von Miller heavily recruited Beckham to join him in Western New York.

The Giants selected Beckham No. 12 overall out of LSU in the 2014 NFL Draft. Beckham spent five seasons in New York, earning three Pro Bowl nods while compiling 390 receptions for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns.

Last season with the Rams and Cleveland Browns, Beckham posted 44 catches for 537 yards and five scores over 14 regular-season games.
