Saquon Barkley Reveals True Feelings After Latest Career Move

The Philadelphia Eagles became Super Bowl champions for the second time in franchise history just a month ago after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 down in New Orleans.

A key factor in their success this past season was running back Saquon Barkley. Last offseason, he signed a three-year, $37.75 million contract in free agency, leaving the team that drafted him and the Eagles’ NFC East rival, the New York Giants.

Barkley then went on to lead the NFL in rushing yards and break Terrell Davis’ single-season rushing record (2,504 yards including playoffs). The 6-foot, 233-pound back also had two games in an Eagles uniform with over 200 rushing yards, one of which included a standout 255-yard performance.

Looking back on it, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman got Barkley for a steal. However, the star running back had earned a well-deserved pay raise, prompting Roseman to extend him with a two-year, $41.2 million deal.

On Monday, Barkley made it official by signing his extension. He later shared a message on the Eagles’ social media account, expressing his excitement for the new deal.

"What's up everybody. It's Saquon Barkley. Just signed a contract, super excited about the extension and excited for the future. Go Birds!"

Barkley is now the highest-paid running back in NFL history as he heads into the 2025 season. But while he secured his own deal, he’s also looking out for the rest of the running back market, hoping to ensure others get paid as well.

"For the Bijan Robinson’s and the Jahmyr Gibbs’, I know James Cook is up, too -- all those guys who are up need to get paid. I hope they beat [the value of my deal]. ... All of those young guys that's underneath me, when there's a time, hopefully they beat it and max it out even more.," Barkley said.
