Well, that time of the offseason has come around again. Spring ball has wrapped up, recruiting is rolling, position battles are put on pause, and we can catch up on some Penn State Football history.

Earlier this week, we looked back at the top four defensive players in Penn State Football history. Today, we break down the top four offensive players in Penn State Football history.

Here are the 4 Greatest offensive players in Penn State Football history, in no particular order.

RB John Cappelletti

It would be a total shame if Penn State Football’s one and only Heisman trophy winner wasn’t on this list.

During the 1973 season Penn State Running Back, John Cappelletti rushed for over 1,500 yards. On top of that, he toted 17 Rushing Touchdowns. Cappelletti averaged 5.3 yards per attempt in the historic 1973 campaign. After the season, John Cappelletti was named an All-American. He also took home the Maxwell award, and, of course, the Heisman Trophy.

Being that Cappelletti is Penn State Football’s only Heisman winner, he easily makes this list. Cappelletti has cemented himself as an all-time Penn State great. His name will not soon be forgotten.

WR Bobby Engram

Bobby Engram is probably the greatest Penn State Wide Receiver of all time.

The wideout played in 4 seasons as a Nittany Lion. He racked up over 160 catches in his college career, and eclipsed 3,000 receiving yards. Engram was a key player for Penn State throughout the 1990’s.

In 1994, Engram earned the first-ever Fred Biletnikoff Award. During that legendary 1994 season, Engram posted 52 catches for over 1,000 yards and caught 7 touchdowns. He followed that 1994 season with an even better 1995 campaign. During that 1995 season, he caught 63 passes and 11 touchdowns.

Bobby Engram is one of the best Penn State Wide Receivers of all time. He has certainly earned his spot as one of the 4 greatest Penn State offensive players of all time.

Along with Bobby Engram, Ki-Jana Carter was another legend on the 1994 Penn State squad.

Ki-Jana Carter played three years at Penn State, before being selected first overall by the Bengals. During Carter’s career, he totalled 34 Rushing Touchdowns and over 2,500 Rushing Yards. In his final season as a Nittany Lion, Carter ran for over 1,500 yards, 23 Touchdowns, and averaged a whopping 7.8 yards per carry. That led him to finish second in Heisman voting that season.

Another great Penn State Running Back makes the list. Ki-Jana Carter is one of the best Running Backs Penn State has ever had, and that is saying a lot.

RB Saquon Barkley

More recent than any of the others, Saquon Barkley is a no-doubter on this list.

Saquon Barkley was one of, if not the key player in turning Penn State Football’s program around. Barkley played 3 seasons in State College before eventually being taken second overall by the New York Giants.

During the memorable 2016 season, Barkley ran for nearly 1,500 yards, and 18 touchdowns. He also tacked on 400 plus receiving yards. In total, Barkley racked up over 5,000 yards from scrimmage, and 51 total touchdowns during his time as a Nittany Lion.

Make no mistake, Saquon Barkley is one of the most electric players in recent college football history. That also firmly places him in the top 4 greatest offensive players in Penn State Football history.
