Saturday Roster Tweaks: Miami Dolphins v New England Patriots

With their running game being a huge focus of their offensive package, the Miami Dolphins can’t afford any holes in the offensive line. The waiver wire was worked over with a fine tooth comb to help with depth as guard Kadyn Proctor is out with a concussion.

Midweek Moves

The Dolphins claimed guard Christian Haynes off waivers from Seattle on Wednesday and waived DJ Campbell in the corresponding move, according to the team’s transaction log. Campbell returned Friday on a practice-squad contract, while tackle Gottlieb Ayedze was released from the practice squad. That sequence leaves Miami with Haynes on the active roster and Campbell available within its developmental group.

The distinction matters entering a game in which the Dolphins cannot use their regular starting left guard. Kadyn Proctor is ruled out with a concussion on Miami’s official injury report. Adding Haynes supplies another interior option. Just how much of the blocking schemes and playbook Haynes can pick up will be determined but a big body clearing space is crucial.

Defensive Moves

Miami also changed its edge personnel Friday. CBS Sports’ transaction tracker lists the acquisition of Jamree Kromah through waivers and the departure of Robert Beal Jr. The move changes the available personnel around the pass rush, although the Dolphins’ eventual game-day rotation remains something to confirm rather than infer from the transaction itself.

There were administrative moves earlier in the week as well. CBS Sports lists kicker Zane Gonzalez and edge Max Llewellyn returning to the practice squad Monday after their previous game-day elevations. Those entries should not be confused with permanent active-roster signings. Their availability for another game requires a new roster action, so Miami’s kicking and reserve-edge plans need a Saturday recheck.

New England’s official log shows three Monday moves – linebacker Jose Ramirez rejoined the practice squad, offensive lineman Jacob Rizy was released from that group and punter Bryce Baringer was released from injured reserve. The Patriots’ changes affect their reserve options, rather than establishing a new starting lineup for Sunday.

For Miami, the clearest immediate issue is how the guard changes fit around Proctor’s absence. For both teams, the final piece is game-day eligibility.
