Sauce Gardner fires back at Charvarius Ward over Super Bowl loss

The war of words between San Francisco 49ers players and other players throughout the NFL continues. On Tuesday, there was a trading of verbal barbs between 49ers defensive back Charvarius Ward and New York Jets’ young star corner Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner.

The verbal spat between the two players kicked off with Gardner making a social media post following San Francisco’s loss in the Super Bowl to Kansas City 25-22. The Jets corner gave the Chiefs credit but also commented on how the 49ers looked on paper versus their performance on the field.

“I told y’all. The 9ers might look better on paper, but the Chiefs always find a way,” said Gardner via X.

“Boy your a-- ain’t never sniffed the playoffs. You watching from the couch. Worry about the sorry a-- Jets. Everybody got something to say about the team in the super bowl. Your opinion doesn’t need to be heard kid,” replied Ward.

The San Francisco defensive back has since deleted the post, but the damage had already been done. ESPN was able to capture Ward’s comment toward Gardner and reposted it for the world to see. And if you are anticipating the Jets’ second-year corner allowing those comments to fly without a reply, you have another thing coming.

The spat transitioned from X to another social media platform, Instagram. It was there, underneath the post from ESPN, that Gardner shared his thoughts, continuing the back and forth between the two players.

“Damn, he must have deleted it hella fast… Ian even get to see it,” said Gardner on Instagram.

“No need to show out for Twitter. I was in Vegas when he posted that lol… in fact, me and Deebo [Samuel] kicked it after the game.”

Undoubtedly, it is a difficult time for the 49er players who came up short in the Super Bowl against the Chiefs after being up by as many as 10 points in the game. The frustration and even social ridicule continued after the games once it was revealed that the San Francisco players were unfamiliar with the overtime rule changes. However, the war of words between Ward and Gardner and even that between 49ers’ offensive linemen Jon Feliciano and Spencer Burford is the kind of attention the team can ill afford as they lick their wounds heading into the offseason.
