Scary Hot Coaching Seats
Darren Yamashita-Imagn Images

We have already seen one hot coaching seat detonate, and that would be Brian Callahan, who had one win within five weeks. His record in 2024 only included three wins – namely, how they ended up in the position to snag quarterback Cam Ward.

Some other guys should keep their heads on a swivel, or they could be next, whether midseason or by the classic Black Monday. Let’s examine who may be on the chopping block.

Scary Hot Coaching Seats

Raheem Morris

Sure, he had a marquee win over the Buffalo Bills in week six. However, this roster has been loaded since he was back in ATL ahead of the 2024 season. Just to name a few stars: Drake London, Bijan Robinson, and Kyle Pitts, among other notable defenders. He was gifted veteran Kirk Cousins and was even able to draft QB Michael Penix Jr. to begin molding him as the future face of the Falcons.

I’d say his seat warmer is turned on to medium. If he can’t get this team to the playoffs, Arthur Blank may consider a regime change ahead of Penix’s second full year of starting. Fresh start, something something something.

Zac Taylor

Zac Taylor has an offense that any man dreams of. This is especially true when Cincinnati’s golden child, Joe Burrow, is healthy. Since leading the team to a Super Bowl in 2022, he has not been able to put together complete seasons. He has also been known to trot out a slow-moving team the last few years. Oddly enough, they did start 2-0 this year. This would be followed up with four straight losses until Flacco came to save the day and beat Pittsburgh on TNF.

Cincy’s defense has been underachieving under Taylor as well, and thus far, it’s a familiar story. They currently rank 31st in total defense.

Relying on Burrow to make magic to keep your job alive is just not sustainable.

Jonathan Gannon

Gannon and the Cards have had a tumultuous start to the season. At 2-5, Arizona is hanging out at the bottom of their conference. The inconsistent nature of this team, even when Kyler Murray is healthy, is getting them nowhere fast. The Head Coach also had an unfortunate sideline altercation with running back Omari Demercado during a game. This behavior earned Gannon a fine and also a brighter target on his back.

Mike McDaniel

Two words: Dumpster fire. The class is completely unhinged, and McDaniel seems to have little control. When your own team is sparring and not syncing from a locker room perspective, you’ve already lost. This franchise would be best suited to finding a new leader and a new quarterback.

However, after another loss in week seven, reports are in that Miami is not making any changes at this time.

I do believe McDaniel will be out of there by January.

John Harbaugh

Yeah, I said it. This is for sure my hottest take on hot seats. It’s not just the disgraceful record as they sit at 1-5 and bottom of the AFC North. Harbaugh has made some disastrous calls in the biggest moments for years.

Reports indicate he is safe, but I am not totally convinced. For years, this has been one of the most talented NFL rosters, and they can not seem to get over the AFC hump in the playoffs. This year, sadly, it appears playoffs will not be giving them grief. Can’t lose a playoff game if you don’t make it there!

Are there any hot seats I overlooked? Let us know on Bluesky and Twitter who should be feeling the fire around the NFL.
