Seahawks activate RB Rashaad Penny ahead of 'MNF' game vs. Saints

The rushing attack of the Seattle Seahawks received a bit of a boost ahead of their "Monday Night Football" game against the New Orleans Saints.

According to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, Seattle activated running back Rashaad Penny before kickoff of Monday's matchup between the Seahawks (2-4) and Saints (3-2). In a corresponding roster move, Seattle released veteran offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi.

Penny hasn't played since he gained eight yards on two carries but hurt his calf in the season-opening 28-16 win over the Indianapolis Colts. With Chris Carson on injured reserve because of a neck problem, Alex Collins had become Seattle's main ball-carrier but missed practice last week because of a groin issue. Per John Boyle of the club's website, Seattle coach Pete Carroll offered a positive update on Collins over the weekend.

"He looked good today so he's ready to go," Carroll explained after Saturday's practice session. "We were planning on giving him a break on the first day anyway, we just gave him one more just to bounce back and he looked fine, so he'll be part of the rotation."

Additionally, Seattle elevated quarterback Jake Luton from the practice squad. Luton will be QB2 behind Geno Smith, who is starting in place of the injured Russell Wilson.
