The Seattle Seahawks will be without one of their newest offensive contributors after placing Robbie Ouzts on injured reserve with an ankle injury before their Week 4 game against the Cardinals.
Ouzts, a fifth-round pick from Alabama, played 60 offensive snaps and another 11 on special teams over Seattle’s first three games. Brady Russell, a key special teams contributor who switched from tight end to fullback over the offseason, is expected to replace Ouzts in the Seahawks’ starting lineup.
Russell already has five tackles on special teams through three games. However, he’s yet to receive an offensive touch since debuting in 2023.
“Number one, he’s a phenomenal teammate and a guy that we have a lot of confidence [because] has already been a phenomenal player on [special teams,]” offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak said of Russell.
“He had a really great offseason with us as an offense,” Kubiak continued, “so looking forward to getting him on the field this week.”
As for Ouzts, he’ll need to miss at least four games. Assuming that there are no setbacks, he’ll he’ll be eligible to return for the Seahawks’ Nov. 2 showdown with the Washington Commanders following Seattle’s Week 8 bye.
Seattle also re-signed safety Jerrick Reed II one day after waiving him. Reed, a 2023 All-Rookie selection, recorded two tackles on 24 snaps (eight defensive, 16 on special teams) in last Sunday’s blowout victory over the New Orleans Saints. Seattle previously waived him in August.
Additionally, Reed’s return isn’t the only defensive move Seattle made on Wednesday. The Seahawks signed D’Anthony Bell off of their practice squad.
