The Seattle Seahawks finished the 2025 NFL preseason with a 1-1-1 record, with their only win coming against the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, as the regular season inches closer, teams have made final cuts to get their rosters down to 53 players.
The Seahawks saw a major shift in their wide receiver room over the offseason, trading DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Seattle made up for this move by bringing in former Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp.
They also signed veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year, $4 million contract, but his tenure in Seattle didn't last long.
On Tuesday, just hours ahead of the 4 p.m. ET 53-man roster deadline, the Seahawks revealed that they have cut Valdes-Scantling. This comes after Seattle attempted to trade him, but it settled for eating his $3 million contract guarantee.
"As expected, #Seahawks are releasing veteran WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling," Tacoma News Tribune's Gregg Bell wrote on X. "Tried to trade him. They have the cap space to eat his $3M guaranteed. Rookie Tory Horton just better. Jake Bobo, Dareke Young better, too. And they all play special teams. MVS does not."

He signed a one-year, $4M deal with the club this offseason
After spending his college career with NC State and South Florida, Valdes-Scantling went on to be the No. 174 pick in the 2018 NFL draft. He spent his first four seasons alongside Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers before joining the Chiefs.
During his two years in Kansas City, Valdes-Scantling helped bring the Chiefs two Super Bowl trophies. He even caught a touchdown from Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl LVIII win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Last season, Scantling spent time with the Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints before signing with Seattle over the offseason. He received some notable action in the Seahawks' preseason finale against the Packers, tallying three catches for 33 yards.
