Seahawks extend Derick Hall to compete with the Rams

Winning their second Super Bowl in four appearances in franchise history, the Seattle Seahawks will have a target on their backs to defend their title.

The Super Bowl champion re-signed with the Seahawks to a new three-year, $42 million extension. The deal can reach upwards of $46.5 million and includes $21 million in guaranteed money. Hall had been entering the final year of his rookie contract and would have made $1.993 million in 2026 on a four-year deal paying him up to $9.115 million overall (h/t Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times).

If it weren't for running back Kenneth Walker III -- Walker III signed a lucrative three-year, $43.050 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs -- who won the MVP of the Super Bowl after rushing for 135 yards on 27 carries, Hall would've been a candidate to win the MVP. Hall had two sacks and a forced fumble in the win over the New England Patriots (29-13).

Hall signing his deal and winning a Super Bowl are accomplishments for someone who had a 1% chance of living. When Hall was born, he weighed 1.5 pounds and had to be resuscitated and placed on life support to help him survive.

Derick Hall re-signing with the Seahawks appears to be a move to compete with the Rams

Drafted in the second round (37th overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft, Hall has proven to be a solid player in the Seahawks' Base 3-4 defense. Playing in all 17 games in his first two seasons, Hall had a breakout campaign in 2024, where he had eight sacks (tied for 27th), two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

That production Hall saw in 2024 dipped in 2025, with two sacks and 11 solo tackles in 14 games. One game Hall missed was due to a suspension for "an act of unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike conduct."

Competing in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL (the NFC West), signing Hall seems to be a move to compete with the Los Angeles Rams, who upgraded their defense. The Rams shocked the NFL world when they sent Jared Verse and two draft picks (2027 first-rounder and a 2028 second-rounder) to the Cleveland Browns for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

Hall was not the only player the Seahawks signed to bring another title to the Northwest, with veteran linebackers Dante Fowler Jr. (12 seasons) and Chazz Surratt (five seasons) to aid in the pass rush (10th, 193.9 yards). The Seahawks also added six defensive backs, which includes D'Anthony Bell.

With Garrett and the possible return of Aaron Donald, the Rams will give the Seahawks a fight in their pursuit to repeat.
