Seahawks HC Comments On The New Receiver In Town

The Seattle Seahawks have added another option in their wide receiver room by trading for J.J. Arcega-Whiteside.

This offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles converted Arcega-Whiteside from wide receiver to tight end because of their stacked receiving corps with A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Quez Watkins.

However, they eventually dealt him to the Seahawks for defensive back Ugo Amadi.

Arcega-Whiteside was selected by Philadelphia in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

But unless he turns the tide, he will forever be known as the guy drafted before the likes of D.K. Metcalf, Diontae Johnson, Terry McLaurin, and Hunter Renfrow.

As of the 2021 season, the Spanish-born wideout has 16 receptions for 290 yards and a touchdown.

He gets a fresh start with the Seahawks, a team that is trying to regain its footing after missing the playoffs for the first time in four seasons.

The trade is a blessing for Arcega-Whiteside because it’s difficult to see him making the final roster for the Eagles.

That’s why he is thrilled to be with the Seahawks.

He said, “I’m full of emotions but I’m very excited. Super excited to see what the hype is about and just excited to be here.”

Coach Carroll Points Out The Positives

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll feels like he is adding a valuable piece to their offense.

As shared by ESPN’s Brady Henderson, he said, “This is a guy we really liked coming out [of Stanford in 2019]. He’s an aggressive catcher. A contested catch guy is what we really liked about him, strong and physical.”

Therefore, Carroll and the Seahawks hope that they can jumpstart Arcega-Whiteside’s promising career.

Having him at his best will be a plus for their starting quarterback, be it Geno Smith or Drew Lock.
