Mike Macdonald used the Seahawks’ Super Bowl celebrations to deliver a pointed message about respect.
Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald addressed the recent moment when Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s name was mispronounced by comedian Druski at the NFL Honors ceremony.
The incident was referenced again as the team celebrated its victory over the New England Patriots.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba was honored at NFL Honors when Druski mispronounced his name during the presentation, prompting discussion across the league.
The wide receiver led the NFL in receiving yards this season and was a central figure in Seattle’s success.
After Smith-Njigba spoke to fans during the Super Bowl parade, Macdonald stepped back to the microphone.
“Put some respect on that man’s name.”
The remark was seen as a clear response to what had taken place at the awards ceremony.
Macdonald’s comment came shortly after he finished third in Coach of the Year voting behind Mike Vrabel.
Days later, Seattle defeated the Patriots 29-13 in the Super Bowl to secure the franchise’s second title.
During the parade, Macdonald also addressed the Coach of the Year result while holding the Lombardi Trophy.
“I think I’ll take this trophy instead.”
With a championship secured and his players publicly supported, Macdonald ensured Seattle closed the season on its own terms.
