Seahawks' Jamal Adams doubles down after bashing wife of reporter who criticized his play

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams took heat on Friday for going after a reporter's wife following a comment that criticized his play in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys on "Thursday Night Football."

After the backlash, Adams decided to take an even lower road, doubling down on a social media post targeting the wife of SNY reporter Connor Hughes.

Adams had a poor night against the Cowboys and could not prevent the game-winning touchdown catch by tight end Jason Ferguson with 4:37 left in the fourth quarter of a 41-35 loss. The play prompted Hughes to tweet "Yikes" on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday afternoon. Adams wasn't pleased. He responded with a now-deleted tweet featuring a picture of Hughes's family, zoomed in to focus on his wife with a returning "Yikes."

Adams' behavior is gross, and it's cowardly to go after someone's family in a situation like this, especially when they aren't remotely involved. It's also equally alarming knowing he took the time to search for a reporter's family photo in an attempt to clown him on social media.

Perhaps after further reflection Adams is having second thoughts. Shortly after seemingly refusing to back down from his post, he said he wasn't "doubling down on nothin" before trying to shift the focus to the game-deciding play.

NFL players may seem larger than life, but they're human with emotions like anyone else. So, it's understandable that Adams might take a critical comment the wrong way. However, that doesn't excuse his actions, regardless of the reasoning.

Criticism comes with the territory when you're a professional athlete, but responding to outside noise makes it possible to take things too far. That appears to be the case with Adams.
