Seahawks make surprising move with starting linebacker

The Seattle Seahawks made a rather shocking move on Monday to shake up their defense coming off their bye week.

The Seahawks are releasing starting linebacker Tyrel Dodson, according to a report. The move comes as a big surprise, as Dodson had started all nine games so far in 2024.

The purpose of the move appears to be to open a starting spot for either rookie Tyrice Knight or former undrafted free agent Drake Thomas. It will also allow Ernest Jones, recently acquired via trade, to take over Dodson’s middle linebacker role.

The Seahawks have lost five of their last six games, so it is no huge surprise that changes are being made. Few saw this one coming, though, as Dodson was not necessarily viewed as the problem. He has 71 total tackles and two sacks on the season, and one would imagine he will land on his feet fairly quickly.
