The Seattle Seahawks didn’t need the final preseason against the Green Bay Packers to decide who the starters and key players on their team would be. The game was required to judge and evaluate certain players who needed more development. Among those players was third-round rookie quarterback Jalen Milroe, who several fans and former players wouldn't mind seeing start in Week 1.
Despite a few good drives through the first two preseason games and a few good practices, it is clear that after a rough third preseason game, Milroe isn’t ready after giving him the responsibility to lead the team on Saturday.
There were definitely signs that Milroe was overwhelmed physically and mentally against the Packers. He went 13-of-24 for 148 yards and a touchdown. There were some good moments in the passing game where he put the ball in his receiver’s hands or guided them to a great catch, but he was sacked five times while playing with the reserve offensive line.

Milroe also had a hard time controlling the ball in his possession. While he accounted for 31 yards on seven carries, but fumbled the ball three times to the Packers defense.

He knows that he needs to develop, but the game against the Packers, where they played a portion of their defensive starters, showed he has much more to work on, especially his pocket awareness and being more accurate in medium-yardage situations.
Milroe needs time to get comfortable in a professional lifestyle and with a pro offense. Sam Darnold is more experienced and poised to handle this offense than a rookie QB. Milroe could find himself playing in certain packages, but don’t expect much playing time this season unless things go wrong.
Milroe has great athleticism, but he doesn’t have the confidence or passing ability to make the start at quarterback as a rookie that someone like Russell Wilson did in 2012.
This shouldn’t be an insult to Milroe; it gives him a guideline for him to improve and potentially become a franchise quarterback later in his career.
