The Seattle Seahawks are inching closer to the start of their offseason program, which will begin in a few weeks' time.
The Seahawks announced that the offseason program will begin on Monday, April 20. OTAs will begin on May 26, May 28, May 29, June 1, June 3, and June 4. The team will then hold a mandatory mini camp from June 9-11.
This will give the Seahawks the opportunity to pick things up where they left off as they look to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
To account for playing and reporting to work every day until the middle of February, the Seahawks are going to ask some of their players to stay home for a little while longer to give them more rest and time with their families. The hope is that this will result in better quality of reps when players come back.
"It was a shorter offseason, so I just felt like the guys needed a standard amount of time away from the building, so we're kind of tiering it, what we had planned out for them to come back during the offseason," Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said via the team's website.
"Guys that didn't really play through that whole playoff push, young guys we're trying to develop or guys that are injured that we're trying to get extra hands on, we'll ask them to come back a little bit earlier, then the other guys will be remote for the first two weeks. Then starting with phase two we're hoping to get everyone back in the building and rolling, then we go from there."
The Seahawks are bringing back a good chunk of their roster from last season, but there will be some new faces. While there is no rookie mini camp this season because the team only has four draft picks to work with, the Seahawks are hopeful that their offseason work will pay off in the long run.
If the Seahawks can attack the offseason program with the right mindset, they can build off of their Super Bowl season and begin forming a dynasty in the pacific northwest with the "Dark Side" defense and Sam Darnold at quarterback.
