Seahawks part ways with OC Brian Schottenheimer

The Seattle Seahawks had an eventful farewell to the season that ended with Saturday's playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams. 

Earlier on Tuesday, the club gleefully announced that general manager John Schneider has signed a contract extension through the 2027 NFL Draft. Hours later, though, Seattle tweeted that the club has parted ways with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. 

"Brian Schottenheimer is a fantastic person and coach and we thank him for the last three years," the Seahawks said in their brief statement. "Citing philosophical differences, we have parted ways."

On Monday, head coach Pete Carroll told reporters that he wants his offense to rely more on the run and less on quarterback Russell Wilson throwing deep passes versus opponents during the 2021 season.  

"We have to run the ball better. Not even run the ball better, run it more," Carroll explained. "Frankly, I'd like to not play against two-deep looks all season long."

The one-time Super Bowl champion coach added at that time that Schottenheimer would remain with the Seahawks through the upcoming offseason. However, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the two met on Monday evening ahead of Tuesday's announcement. 

Schottenheimer originally joined the Seahawks in January 2018.
