Seahawks 'Ready For Anything' in NFL Draft
USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks are coming off a down year and will be looking to bounce back in Mike Macdonald's first stint as a head coach. That process starts at the NFL Scouting Combine where the Seahawks brass will be going over every player with a fine-tooth comb.

Then comes the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit. Still well over a month away, plenty of things can change, but when it comes to the actual day of the draft, things tend to go off script.

And if that does happen, and Seattle is forced to change its approach, Seahawks general manager John Schneider will be ready.

"We have to be ready for anything," Schneider said via the Seahawks official team site. "We don't know if a certain trade will go down or if something happens. You guys have seen players fall in the past and you've seen teams be able to jump up and have successful trades moving up into the top 10 to grabs guys."

Seattle currently holds the No. 16 overall pick and there is a lot of unknown about which way the franchise will go with its first-round selection.

Several mock drafts have Macdonald adding to his defense with players like Byron Murphy II and Jer'Zhan Newton, while others have Seattle going offense with Georgia's Brock Bowers or Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson.

There are a couple of ways Seattle could go, but that is all predicated on how the first 15 selections pan out.

As Schneider states, teams could trade up or down and it could completely change the outlook of the first round.

Being agile is key and the Seahawks may have to do some quick thinking on the fly if things get crazy in Detroit, but Schneider is more than ready for it.
