The Seattle Seahawks are second in the NFC West with a 10-3 record, having won three straight games. They are fifth in the NFC, but they have a legitimate shot at claiming the top seed in both the division and the conference.
Only the 10-3 Los Angeles Rams are ahead of them, thanks to their head-to-head record. L.A. beat Seattle 21-19 in their Week 11 showdown. The two teams will meet again in Week 16, which could very well decide who finishes at the top of the NFC.
Amid their success and ahead of a likely playoff bid, however, the Seahawks made some roster changes.
On Thursday, the Seahawks announced the release of two players from their practice squad, including running back Cam Akers.
Akers, who was part of the Rams' Super Bowl-winning team back in the 2021 season, joined the Seahawks' practice squad two weeks ago after being released by the Minnesota Vikings. Unfortunately, he never got the chance to suit up for the Seattle franchise.
The 26-year-old RB has played 56 NFL games in his career, recording 507 rushing attempts for 2,044 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Along with Akers, cornerback Shaquill Griffin has also been cut. The two are vested veterans, so they are hitting free agency immediately.

It's worth noting that the release of Akers comes a day after the Seahawks made changes in their offensive coaching staff. Running backs coach Kennedy Polamalu took a leave of absence for personal reasons, prompting the team to temporarily give his duties to run game specialist Justin Outten and offensive assistant Michael Byrne.
It remains to be seen how the changes will affect the Seahawks. It's worth noting that they rank 18th in rushing offense in the NFL.
