Seahawks Reportedly Shake Up Backfield With RB Move

The Seattle Seahawks are preparing to part ways with running back Kenny McIntosh, a move that further reshapes a backfield already undergoing significant change during training camp.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team intends to waive McIntosh who began the offseason on the physically unable to perform list while continuing his recovery from a torn ACL suffered the previous summer.

McIntosh, selected in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, saw limited but efficient action during his time in Seattle. All of his regular-season production came in 2024, when he carried the ball 31 times for 172 yards and averaged 5.5 yards per attempt while working primarily behind Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet.

That modest sample offered glimpses of promise, yet a severe knee injury in July 2025 training camp—sustained during a special-teams drill—sidelined him for the entire season and placed him on injured reserve.

His rehabilitation timeline complicated any chance of reclaiming a roster spot. Players on the active/PUP list can return during camp, but McIntosh remained unavailable while healthy competitors logged valuable practice reps. In the interim, the Seahawks overhauled the position.

Walker departed in free agency, the team signed Emanuel Wilson after three seasons in Green Bay, and they used the final selection of the 2026 first round—No. 32 overall—on Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price.

With Charbonnet also recovering from an ACL tear suffered in the playoffs and currently on the PUP list, the early camp workload has fallen largely to Price, Wilson, and George Holani.

Wilson arrived with a solid recent track record, having rushed for 502 yards and four touchdowns on 103 carries in 2024 while averaging nearly five yards per attempt. Holani brings familiarity with Seattle’s offense and prior contributions as both a runner and returner.

Price, meanwhile, has already drawn attention by taking snaps in the passing game across multiple offensive groups, an encouraging development given his more limited receiving production in college.

Those available backs now hold a clear advantage in the competition for playing time, especially with uncertainty surrounding Charbonnet’s readiness for the start of the regular season. Should he remain on the PUP list into the fall, he would miss at least the first four games.

The decision on McIntosh removes one more name from a crowded room and underscores how quickly the organization has moved on from his injury setback.

Once viewed as a potential depth piece after his efficient 2024 showing, he ultimately found himself outside a competition that has taken on greater urgency.

Seattle still faces the task of identifying its primary options while Charbonnet works his way back, but the reported waiver streamlines the evaluation process and places even greater emphasis on the early opportunities afforded to the healthy players already on the field.
