Seahawks' Russell Wilson: 'I did not request a trade'

Throughout the spring, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider poured cold water over any rumors that quarterback and one-time Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson was unhappy with aspects of the organization so much so that he was looking to orchestrate a trade. 

Days after Wilson reported for organized team activities after he spent some time working out in San Diego, he told reporters he's committed to winning another championship with Seattle and remains fond of the city and the team's devoted fans. 

"In terms of the trade talks, I think anytime you play professional sports, there’s always a possibility of something happening, right? I think that’s just the reality," Wilson explained, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "I think that there’s a lot of teams out there that people were saying that I was going to, or would go, that I requested a trade. I did not request a trade. I’ve always wanted to play here. The reality is I think calls were getting thrown around and this and that, and I mean that’s just a reality. But I think at the end of the day the real reality is I’m here and I’m here to win. I’m here to win it all." 

Unlike the ongoing situation involving reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, there was never a moment following Super Bowl LV when it truly appeared Wilson and the Seahawks were on the outs as it pertains to the upcoming season. Discussions between the two parties could become tense if Seattle fails to win anything of note between now and next February, but all involved don't have to worry about that until the winter months.
