Sam Darnold has been dealing with an oblique injury as the Seattle Seahawks prepare for their Super Bowl matchup against the New England Patriots on Sunday, Feb. 8. Darnold first injured his oblique in practice ahead of Seattle’s divisional round win over the San Francisco 49ers. He played through the injury against the Niners and in the NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Darnold was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. The Seahawks released their report for Friday’s practice, and Darnold was listed as limited again because of the oblique issue.

Friday’s injury report also included the team’s projected injury designation for the Super Bowl.

The NFL required the Seahawks and the Patriots to submit a projected injury report as if the Super Bowl were on Sunday. The biggest development for New England is that Maye was listed as questionable to play due to a right shoulder injury and an illness.

The big game is still nine days away, though, which should give Maye enough time to rest and recover.

As for Darnold, the good news is that he has no injury designation in Friday’s report. This means that despite his oblique injury, the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback would play if the Super Bowl were this Sunday.

This is a welcome development for Darnold and the Seahawks after the 28-year-old was listed as questionable to play for both the 49ers and the Rams games. The fact that he has no injury designation now is a good sign.

The Seahawks will have more practices next week, and additional injury updates will be provided by then. However, barring any unforeseen setbacks, Darnold should be good to go for Super Bowl 60.

The big game will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Sunday, Feb. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with CBS broadcasting the game.
