One of the top cornerbacks in the NFL has a new $132 million deal in his back pocket.
The Seattle Seahawks reached an agreement with cornerback Devon Witherspoon on a four-year, $132 million contract extension. Witherspoon’s deal includes over $101 million in guaranteed money and makes him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

Witherspoon had two years remaining on his rookie deal, but it was in the interests of both parties to get something done as soon as possible to eliminate any uncertainty. Witherspoon has certainly accomplished that, and reset the cornerback market in the process.
The No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Witherspoon has been as advertised for Seattle. He is at the heart of the team’s elite Super Bowl-winning secondary and has been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first three NFL seasons. He earned second-team All-Pro honors for the first time last season even though he only played in 12 games.
Witherspoon’s contract should be good news for New England Patriots defensive back Christian Gonzalez, who will also be in the market for a new contract and can probably demand at least as much as Witherspoon got.
