Seahawks star WR still talks to Broncos' Russell Wilson 'probably every day'

In an interview at the Gatorade Player of the Year awards, the wide receiver told Bisciotti that he chats with the Denver Broncos quarterback "probably every day."

Metcalf spent the first three seasons of his career with Wilson as his signal-caller in Seattle, before the nine-time Pro Bowler was traded to the Broncos in March 2022. Wilson left the Seahawks as their all-time leader in passing yards (37,059), passing touchdowns (292), fourth-quarter comebacks (24), game-winning drives (32) and regular season wins (104) while leading Seattle to their only Super Bowl victory in February 2014 over the Denver.

Along with Tyler Lockett, Metcalf was one of Wilson's favorite targets prior to the blockbuster deal, seeing 358 passes go his way over his first three regular seasons and recording 216 catches for 3,170 yards and 29 scores. Metcalf also racked up 16 receptions for 315 yards and three touchdowns in three playoff games over two years with Wilson during the 2019 and 2020 campaigns.

No. 3's move to the Mile High City didn't slow down the 2020 Pro Bowler's production, as new starter Geno Smith ran away with the starting job last summer and earned his first career Pro Bowl honor, plus the AP Comeback Player of the Year award. Metcalf led the Seahawks in targets (141), receptions (90) and receiving yards (1,048) and was second only to Lockett's nine scores (Metcalf finished with six touchdowns).

While Metcalf, Smith and Seattle surprised many with their 9-8 record and playoff berth last winter, Wilson's first year with the Broncos was a disaster.

He was the recipient of some questionable comments from his former longtime head coach Pete Carroll and had a subpar season. Wilson finished with a career-worst 60.5% completion percentage and a career-low 16 touchdown passes against 11 interceptions across 15 games.

Injuries and head-scratching coaching decisions didn't help the situation in Denver (first-year leader Nathaniel Hackett was fired in December), but the 34-year-old clearly wasn't himself.

The Broncos went 4-11 in Wilson's 15 starts and finished last in the AFC West at 5-12.
