Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett plans to give Russell Wilson a hug in Week 1

Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett still cheers for former teammate Russell Wilson, and he thinks Seattle fans should too. Wilson, traded by the Seahawks to Denver in the offseason, plays at Seattle in Week 1.

“I can’t control what anybody else says or anybody else does," Lockett said at a news conference Tuesday. "But I know, that when I see him, I’m gonna go give him a hug, talk to him, all that different type of stuff."

Wilson and Lockett formed a tremendous on-field tandem for the Seahawks. In 2020, Pro Football Focus named them a top-five duo.

Adjusting to life without each other will be difficult, especially for Wilson, who will play in Seattle as an opponent for the first time. Despite winning a Super Bowl and participating in many charitable endeavors in Seattle, Wilson received a mix of cheers and boos when he appeared in a tribute video last month for Seattle Storm star Sue Bird, per the Associated Press.

Wilson, of course, spent his first 10 seasons in Seattle, becoming the franchise's all-time leading passer. He may have been the Seahawks' marquee star, but his relationship did not end amicably. Multiple reports stated Wilson and the front office bickered regularly, which led to the trade with the Broncos.

If Wilson spoils Seattle’s home opener, he’ll approach a historical milestone. Per CBS Sports, only four quarterbacks in NFL history have beaten all 32 NFL teams: Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Brett Farve. Wilson needs wins against Seattle and the Chargers to join the club.
