Sean McDermott already talking up Jake Fromm

Jake Fromm doesn’t fit the profile of quarterbacks drafted in the past decade, as he made his preseason debut on Friday at 23 years of age, but he does come with plenty of big-game experience.

Fromm played in the College Football Playoff national championship game for Georgia in 2018, and if it weren’t for late-game heroics from Tua Tagovailoa, he probably would’ve led his team to victory.

So he knows all about playing on the big stage, and that’s probably why the Bills chose to take a flyer on him in the fifth round of the 2020 draft, despite having Josh Allen as their franchise quarterback for years to come.

Fromm quarantined last season, so all eyes were on him in the team’s preseason game against the Lions on Friday night. He posted solid numbers, completing 8-of-13 passes for 65 yards, and head coach Sean McDermott seemed impressed with his quarterback’s performance.

“The thing with Jake is, he’s been there before,” McDermott said at his postgame press conference. “Go back to when Brandon [Beane] scouted him. He’s been in big games before, in those moments. He just doesn’t seem to be fazed by those moments.”

The Bills could find themselves in an interesting situation. If they can boost Fromm’s stock, he may become an interesting trade candidate in the future.
