Sean McDermott Hopes To Coach in NFL Again

The Bills hired McDermott during the 2017 offseason, and he guided the franchise to its first playoff berth in nearly 20 years in his first year as head coach. McDermott helped turn the Bills around, guiding them to the playoffs in eight of the nine seasons he was there, including the last seven seasons.

Despite winning five AFC East titles and having superstar quarterback Josh Allen, the Bills never reached the Super Bowl during his tenure. After Buffalo fell to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round in overtime, 33-30, the Bills fired McDermott shortly after the game, finishing with a 98-50 regular-season record as head coach and an 8-8 record in the postseason.

McDermott was replaced by offensive coordinator Joe Brady during the offseason.

The Bills are now looking to return to the playoffs for an eighth straight year and hope to reach and win their first Super Bowl in franchise history. And if anyone thinks the Bills can finally win a world championship, it’s their former head coach, who has the Bills facing the heavily favored Los Angeles Rams.

“I don’t see why, you know, why you wouldn’t bet on them because the games at the end of the day have to be played, right? It’s one thing on paper, but it’s another thing to play the game,” McDermott said.

McDermott also had nothing but great things to say about the Bills organization.

“Of course I do,” McDermott said. “But man, oh man, the impact that that team, that building, and that community had on me and my family, we’ll remember that for the rest of our lives.”

“And that’s part of sports, right?” McDermott continued. “The wins and the losses are important, but it’s like the impact you leave, or that is left on people, and the fan base, and them on you, and that’s the real part of sports.”
