It wasn't looking good for the Rams after their first overtime possession ground to a halt with a two-yard loss on 3rd & 1, but Sean McVay's team was able to overcome it to reach another NFC title game.
The Rams escaped snowy Soldier Field with a 20-17 OT win despite the late game heroics of Caleb Williams in regulation — thanks in large part to an outstanding play by veteran safety Kamren Curl who was able to capitalize on the miscommunication between Williams and DJ Moore to set the Rams up for another drive.
Things went much smoother for LA that time around. However, McVay says he was lucky that his players were able to pick him up after his "terrible" play-call moments earlier.
Speaking to reporters after the fact, the Rams coach took accountability for the game going the way it did while praising his players for finding a way to survive and advance.
“We start off, you feel like you’re getting a little bit of momentum,” the coach explained. “I make a terrible third-down-and-1 call. No excuse for that. Should’ve used the timeout. They did a good job of having a good call on there and we got to punt it out.”
“I did not like the feel for the flow of the game that I had, outside of the first series where our guys did a great job,” McVay added. “Defensively, it kept us in it, in spite of how poor of a job I did for our group. But like I said, I’m really grateful for this group being able to find a way, stick with it and be able to overcome some bad coaching by me tonight.”
As critical as many were of McVay in Sunday night's game, the coach was able to make some pretty impressive history with the Rams' divisional round win.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN: "At age 39, Rams HC Sean McVay now has 10 postseason wins, double the number of postseason wins of any NFL coach under the age of 40. John Madden, Jon Gruden, Mike Tomlin and Zac Taylor each had five postseason wins before they turned 40. McVay turns 40 on Saturday, one day before the NFC championship game."

The Rams are now one win away from their third Super Bowl appearance under Sean McVay — losing to the Patriots in 2018 before winning in Matt Stafford's first year in the team's home stadium.
