With the weight of LA's Super Bowl hopes on his back, Matthew Stafford's soreness only appears to be worsening.
After telling reporters that he felt "pretty good" about his quarterback only missing a short period of time this training camp, Rams head coach Sean McVay had a troubling update on the status of his 37-year-old QB.
Per The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue, McVay told reporters Saturday that Stafford will now be a "week at a time" in his recovery and admitted that it's probably what he should have said from the beginning.
"I don't think we can be smart enough with somebody like Matthew [Stafford] and I think it's best for him, best for our football team, and that's kind of the plan that we'll have moving forward," the coach said.
McVay maintains that Stafford didn't didn't suffer a setback in terms of his injury but thinks that moving to this new structure will help the two-time Pro Bowler to be "absolutely" ready by the time the regular season starts.
The Rams open the year with a home game against the Houston Texans and the former Coach of the Year also shared that he doesn't "have any reason for concern" when it comes to Stafford's health in the immediate.
Still though it's never a great sign when a player comes limping into the year because athletes that limp in, usually limp out too.
Hopefully this is mostly nothing but it's definitely not the kind of news you want to hear if you're cheering on the blue and gold in 2025.
