Sean McVay Makes Concerning Admission Before NFL Draft

Despite recent speculation, the Los Angeles Rams might not be in any hurry to find a potential successor to quarterback Matthew Stafford.

While fielding questions following the NFC Coach's Breakfast last week, coach Sean McVay said he hasn't made it a priority ahead of the NFL Draft later this month.

"I haven't done a whole lot of work on the quarterbacks," he said. "I feel really good about where our quarterback room is even though we're not naive to the fact that Matthew's hopefully got a couple more years left that he wants to play, but he's also earned the right to be able to say after this year, 'Hey, I'm going to go ahead and hang them up.' I'm hopeful that that's not the case."

Stafford turned 37-years-old in February, but has shown that he's still up to the task physically, turning in two productive seasons after being limited to nine games during a injury-plagued 2022 season.

Behind him, the Rams re-signed backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a $4.505 million guaranteed contract with up to $9 million in incentives. 2023 fourth-round pick Stetson Bennett is also under contract.

It would be difficult to believe the Rams aren't thinking about the most important position beyond this season. McVay didn't completely close the door on the idea of adding to the room, either.

"I haven't done enough work to really have an educated opinion on that," he said in reference to this year's crop of quarterbacks. "That's not something that I would see us going, but—maybe not."

While the first-round might be too early, the Rams could opt to address the position in the third-round, where they hold picks No. 90 and 101.
