Sean McVay's postgame comments could spell reducted role for Los Angeles Rams playmaker that they just paid big money to

The Los Angeles Rams made quite a surprising move in the offseason when the team elected to sign running back Kyren Williams to an extension , marking the first time any running back had been extended under general manager Les Snead since Todd Gurley. This came as a surprise, as the Rams seemed poised to move on from Williams when his extension was up.

Williams has gotten off to a slow start to the season, amassing just over 60 yards in each of the Rams' first two games. It's not an encouraging return on investment so far for Los Angeles, but there is still plenty of season left.

However, based on Sean McVay's postgame comments, there might even be a further reduction in Williams' workload moving forward, an inauspicious sign for his production moving forward in 2025.

Blake Corum Set To See More Carries Moving Forward

When the Los Angeles Rams drafted Blake Corum in the 2024 NFL Draft, they envisioned a tandem of Williams and Corum, where the two could spell each other's roles and keep each other fresh throughout the game. That didn't happen in Corum's rookie year, as Williams dominated the touches.

However, the tide does seem to be turning now that Corum has another year under his belt, and it seems like the Rams found their ideal balance here in their Week 2 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

Kyren still took a heavy workload, but Corum saw his most snaps as a Ram, including scoring his first career touchdown midway through the fourth quarter.

After the game, head coach Sean McVay said that the workload split (Kyren ~70%, Corum ~30%) was more "in alignment" with how the Rams wanted their backfield to operate moving forward. Given that Williams usually operates with over 90%, this is a notable decrease that could shift even more depending on how Corum plays with a bigger workload.

For a player with an already frustrating lack of production, this isn't an ideal sign for Williams. Of course, McVay could be reverting back to typical coach speak and none of this will matter. However, this whole process with Williams and Corum has been handled very poorly and made even more complicated with Williams' extension.
