The Seattle Seahawks travel to State Farm Stadium Thursday night to face the Arizona Cardinals in a crucial NFC West matchup that could define early divisional positioning. Both teams enter at 2-1, but their paths to this record tell different stories about momentum and team direction.

Seattle has surged after a Week 1 stumble, dominating Pittsburgh 31-17 and New Orleans 33-16 with an increasingly efficient offense and standout special teams play. Arizona, meanwhile, squeaked out narrow victories in its first two contests before surrendering a late lead to the San Francisco 49ers in a heartbreaking 16-15 loss last Sunday.

Key Details

Seattle Seahawks

Quarterback Sam Darnold has transformed Seattle’s offense through three games, completing an impressive just over 69 percent of his passes while averaging a career-best 9.0 yards per attempt. The veteran quarterback has been sacked just three times, showcasing improved pocket presence and decision-making under offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s system.

“That defense is rolling,” Darnold said when discussing Arizona’s defensive unit. “They always present issues for an offense, just all the different looks that they can give and what they do in the back end, disguising coverages.” Rookie wide receiver Tory Horton has emerged as an unexpected weapon for Seattle, scoring three touchdowns in three games, including a punt return for a touchdown. The Colorado State product has already accumulated the third-most receiving yards among Seahawks players despite being a fifth-round draft pick whose college career was shortened by injury.

Arizona Cardinals

Arizona received devastating news this week when running back James Conner was ruled out for the remainder of the season with a foot injury suffered against the 49ers. The veteran back had rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the previous two seasons and served as a crucial locker room leader.

“His feel for the game, his leadership, his presence in the huddle and in the locker room: yeah, you can’t really replace that for real,” quarterback Kyler Murray said about losing Conner . Second-year player Trey Benson will assume the primary running back duties, averaging 5.0 yards per carry in his limited NFL experience. However, Benson has never handled more than 13 touches in a single game, making Thursday’s contest a significant test for the young back and Arizona’s offensive line.

Prediction

The Cardinals were called the worst 2-0 team before the 49ers game. After last weekend, they are the worst 2-1 team and do not have James Connor in the lineup. The Cardinals have not shown anything this season to indicate they are a good team. The low spread is surprising, and it makes Seattle the easy pick.

Final Pick

Seattle Seahawks  -1.5
